The UN Safety Council on Friday voted to finish a decade-old peacekeeping mission to Mali, whose navy junta urged the troops’ removing because it aligns with Russia.
The Safety Council voted unanimously on a decision that can instantly begin winding down the Minusma mission, began in 2013 to stop a jihadist takeover.
The vote got here two weeks after Malian International Minister Abdoulaye Diop surprised the Safety Council by calling the UN mission a “failure” and urging its fast finish.
