The US-based wild cat conservation organisation Panthera has launched never-before-seen photos of a lioness and three cubs noticed in February by a distant cameras within the Niokolo-Koba Nationwide Park in southeastern Senegal.
In what Panthera describes as a “thrilling signal of restoration for the critically endangered West African lion”, video footage reveals the large cat consuming an animal carcass whereas its three-month-old offspring attempt to imitate it.
They brandish their claws and fangs, testing them out on scraps of wooden or their mom’s hindquarters.
“This documentation of recent lion life… signifies the outstanding restoration of a inhabitants getting ready to extinction”, the organisation stated in a press release.
Panthera has since 2011 been working with Senegal’s Division of Nationwide Parks on conservation efforts within the Niokolo-Koba park.
In that point, the variety of lions within the park has risen from 10 or 15 to round 30, the organisation stated.
The West African lion is characterised by a slim mane and bald look, and is genetically distinct from the African or Asian subspecies.
