Witness Blanket: Sask. Heritage Centre opens exhibit for truth and reconciliation

The Witness Blanket was unveiled on the RCMP Heritage Centre in Regina on Thursday.

The travelling artwork piece, impressed by the unique woven blanket created by artist Carey Newman, comes from the Canadian Museum of Human Rights in Winnipeg.

The piece within the Heritage Centre is one in every of two replicas of the unique blanket.

It represents tons of of reclaimed objects from residential faculties, church buildings, authorities buildings, and conventional buildings throughout the nation.

The Witness Blanket is made up of over 800 objects, every telling a person story. When pieced collectively, they intention to inform the general legacy of the residential faculties in Canada.

70 of the objects are from Saskatchewan residential faculties.

“Now we have to seek out methods to counteract the cycle of trauma,” stated David Alexzander Crowe, pupil at Scott Collegiate.

Crowe helped the board carry the exhibit to the heritage centre, collaborating in discussions on its implementation in essentially the most respectful method attainable.
