Armenian fireworks warehouse blast death toll rises to 16

Rescuers have recovered more bodies from the site of a fireworks warehouse blast in Armenia, raising the death toll from Sunday’s explosion to 16, the emergencies ministry said on Tuesday.

It said that 17 people are still missing after blasts tore through a warehouse in Yerevan’s market on Sunday. The blasts caused parts of the building and injured at least 60 people.

Emergencies minister Armen Pambukhchyan said a pregnant woman and а young child were among the dead, and that search and rescue efforts were ongoing as of Tuesday morning.

The video was shared by the emergency ministry and showed rescuers combing through a pile smoldering with rubble, twisted metal, and other debris.

Although it was unclear what caused the explosion at the Surmalu market, authorities have ruled out terrorist acts.
