Invictus Energy, an Australian company, announced that it would begin drilling its first well in Zimbabwe within a few days. The goal is to search for gas and other oi.l. The company thinks 20 trillion cubic feet of gas are located in this well in the Muzarabani-Mbire area, in the north, near the border with Mozambique.

The firm plans a gas to-power facility to supply Zimbabwe’s grid. This is an attractive option, as Zimbabwe is suffering from power shortages.
But environmentalists fear the construction of pipelines could lead to forced displacement, harm the vegetation and animal habitats.
